"La Palapa Hotel is the paradise on earth . . . with rain forest gardens.

This hotel is a unique unit in a rain forest area where toucans, parrots and wood pickers are our best friends during all day long.

The gardens are just remarkable, with lots and lots of tropical plants, in a area where wildlife comes to visit the resort guests.

If you want a fantastic holiday resort, go to La Palapa Hotel in Portalon, Quepos - Costa Rica. . . .and meet the people of Portalon, and visit the children on the primary school of Portalon. . . .beautiful people, that welcome you."

"Last year I rented with my wife a beautiful Villa for a week with views over the gardens and swimming pool. The Villa was so beautiful that it was hard to leave to go see anything else. But what we did and what I discovered thrilled us. A ride down to a near beach called Matapalo, was just beautiful to be at low tide, were while sitting on the sand we could see the crabs running around looking for food before the tide was up again, surrounded for many hours by no one. Hiking through the jungle made me think of all the natural medicinal plants it harbors which we know so little of. We'll come back to 'La Palapa Eco Lodge Resort' and hopefully rent the same house!"

"Loved it

This is for the La Palapa Resort in Portalon near Quepos, not Tamarindo? My family enjoyed this hotel very much. Very beautiful gardens, small but nice pool, bar, food, and quiet. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere, which is a very good thing. It is much nicer than staying in Quepos, and it's a world away from the touristy Jaco. I'd describe it as very peaceful.

The beach is about 5 minutes away by car, and if there were 10 other people on the beach it was crowded. The water is warm, nice waves to play in, and it's a very child safe beach. There are a number of nice inexpensive little restaurants around the beach to explore, but for the most part they just made the restaurant at the hotel seem much nicer, so we had mostly all of our meals there.

The staff at the hotel was very helpful when we needed something, but in reality everything is already provided so we didn't want for much. And, I was shocked when I say the hotels library (I'm a reader). Loved it!

I'd recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a quite, relaxing stay in an unspoiled part of costa rica.

Liked — peaceful, quiet, relaxing
Disliked — that we had to go home

"Very quiet gem, beat the crowds

We planed on staying at La Palapa in Portalon, outside Quepos for 3 days, but extended the stay for 8 days because it was so nice. If you want to beat the crowds, or you're not into the hussle of the bar scene in places like Jaco, go here. They have a nice pool, beautiful lush gardens, and are about 5 minutes away from the most uncrowded beach we have ever been too. They have a nice restaurant and bar that we used more and more as the days went on for all three meals. We would watch to Toucans while drinking out mourning coffee! This was a great place to quietly unwind, but close enough to all the tourist stuff to keep us satisfied. We were able to take surf lessons in Dominical one day, went on a rafting trip on the Savegre River, did a canopy tour, went to Manuel Antonio National Park for the day, but mostly just lounge on the local Matapalo beach. A little out of the way, but isn't that why we go to Costa Rica! The service was only good, not great, but we didn't have any problems to speak of. Hot showers, clean room, little kitchenette, nice facilities. My girlfriend and I highly recommend this place, a bargain for what we paid. Pura Vida!"

"Of all the beautiful places in the world, La Palapa Eco Lodge Resort is for me definitely one of the best. We had a wonderful, Pool Villa where we enjoyed all the sounds of the wildlife at your rainforest resort day and night. We will not forget our too short stay and will definitely share all of our great memories with our friends."

"Waking up early in the morning with palm trees and bird songs was quite a shock to my system! My first trip to Costa Rica has exceeded my expectations. I have returned home with a new respect for Costa Rica and La Palapa's beauty, nature, and wonderful people. I want to thank you for taking the time to give me and Mary a tour around your lovely property, for great dinners. I do hope that your holiday season will be a success. On a personal note, it was very nice to receive that follow up call from you to see if I survived from my canopy adventure. The photos of my holidays with you, provides the proof I needed to bring my family and friends next time."

"Just wanted to thank you again for the wonderful life experience we had at La Palapa. Everything was so beautiful and over all of our expectations. What makes your resort so fantastic is the friendliness of the staff. All of you welcomed us as if we were your friends, not just hotel guests and that made our experience all the more better. Right now, we are back home missing that friendliness. Thanks again for an awesome time in Costa Rica..."

"Until coming to La Palapa, the expression ‘Pura Vida’ seemed like a cheesy cliché from tourist guide books. I think here we discovered the meaning of ‘Pura Vida’. The simple luxuries of good food (delicious, healthy & fresh), clean air, and a life harmonious with the environment around us, things that are harder and harder to obtain in our modern world. Pura Vida!"

"First thing Alice said when she saw your place was, I would come back here!“ 4 days later, like anyone, we’d rather not have to come back, because we’d rather not leave at all. So much wildlife...right in front of our villa! Thanks for your generosity and your company...the food was magnificent."

"Yes, this is a place of true tranquility natural paradise. Time took a holiday while I stayed here leaving all sorts of time in my days to just... take it all in. The majesty of your resort is for all who stay here. You don’t even need to move from this table and it is revealed. This place is an inspiration. I hope it does the same for all the others that are fortunate enough to pass this way. Thank you."

"Thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful place. It was my first time to stay in an open-air cabin. It was so so great to hear the sound of nature! (especially during sleep) Thank you for the great food and company."

"A refuge of tranquility and beauty that is infused with so much heartfelt creativity. You are providing men a welcome paradise for those who had the opportunity to share this dream with you. I feel so fortunate to have found the vision of what I had hoped for in Costa Rica. Thanks, I will carry this place in my heart."
